La Terrasse - Mougins

My Gastronomic tour de force starts on Christmas Eve with a great little warm up at La Terrasse . It has become something of a tradition that every Christmas my family traipses up to this little restaurant perched on a hill in Mougins. On first impression the dining room resembles a cross between a medieval banqueting parlour and a scandinavian furniture showroom, however it is strangely appealing.
In many ways the interior reflects the cooking, a mixture of old and new. The chef sticks to classical dishes constructed with a modern uncomplicated touch. A starter of cauliflower puree sitting above a lobster bisque is a signature dish and one that always sparks debate. For me the lightness and frothiness of the cauliflower combined with the meaty lobster is a perfect union. A leg of Chapon (a castrated chicken) sitting on a bed of roast vegetables failed to wow and induced a definite state of food envy when I spied my partner’s venison, which was cooked to absolute perfection.
The meal ended predictably with a trio of desserts. Suffice to say they were very pleasant but do not warrant great descriptions.
A solid start.
